History Highlights
- Fall 1991 - Twelve students from five different nations joined TCU as the first Intensive English Program on campus.
- Spring 1995 - TCU hired for the IEP additional full-time instructors and a full-time director. Enrollment was then limited to students with at least an intermediate level of English and was capped at forty-five students. Elective courses were added, and the number of sessions was increased from three to six per year.
- Summer 1995 to Summer 2001 - The first of many customized IEPs was run. Employing the services of the full-time IEP staff and instructors, the customized programs (for a number of different clients have meet a variety of special needs: one-on-one tutoring; American Business Culture & English; Daily American English; Professional English for the Academy; and the English of Popular US Culture.
- Fall 1998 - With grants from Tandy (RadioShack) Corporation and from the Union Pacific Foundation, the TCU Intensive English Program eLab was built. A full-time eLab coordinator was hired.
- Spring 1999 to Spring 2000 - The staff and instructors of the IEP built and ran the world's first fully online Intensive English Program. During that year, students in the "eProgram" made much faster learning progress than their classroom counterparts.
- Summer 2000 - For students on campus, the IEP at TCU blended the best of the eProgram with the best of the face-to-face classes so that eLab and online interaction are now an integral part of every class.
- Fall 2001 - The IEP staff and instructors began a year-long strategic plan. Development of the online and the on-campus programs for the new millennium are the key focus (having in mind overcoming the difficult economic and free-travel consequences of the tragic terrorist events of September 11).

Fall 2002 - TCU instituted a number of value-added incentives to language learning:
- The University offers a 100% IEP Tuition Rebate for any student who completes the Undergraduate Program entirely at TCU.
- There is no TOEFL requirement for the student first completing IEP.
- A 5-year Form I-20 is given to the student admitted to both the IEP and the Undergraduate Program.
- The upper-level IEP student may begin Undergraduate Program classes while in IEP.
- 12 free Undergraduate Program credits (10% of the Degree) are given to the student admitted to the Undergraduate Program for use of a language other than English in high school!
- 2003 - TCU began offering part-time evening courses in English for the community.
- Summer 2005 - The IEP at TCU offered affordable, month-long sessions through the summer.
